Lying below the Trudos mountains, Limassol is a hedonistic city which is the second largest town in Cyprus. Although Ayia Napa has assumed the crown of the party capital of the island, Limassol is definitely not the most quiet of holiday destinations there is mix of history and culture contained within the town boundries! Richard the lionheart put Limassol on the map in 1191 Ad and although a succesion of travellers, armies and visitors over the centuries have had their influence as well as several major earthquakes, not as much of the city has been spared and we are left with the modern day incarnation that has not retained huge chunks of its history. Nevertheless, traditional old boutiques and dark inns, where the Cypriots drink the famous Brandy sour drink are rapidly changing into modern shopping centres and restaurants. Limassol is famous for its wine festivals held in August.
